Colorado Elk Hunting Outfitters

Samuelson Outfitters is a family run business, operating since 1967 in the Troublesome Basin. It is one of the premier elk hunting areas in Colorado and has been noted for its considerable percentage of large bulls and an abundance and variety of wildlife. It is an area that one will remember for years to come and a place to which our family has grown very attached.

We are known for a high return of clients and of our capable staff. Our guides strategically work areas with you for the optimum opportunity in acquiring your game. Our camp hands do all those chores you don't want to do, or have to do...and these characters will work to keep you in good spirits and laughter at the same time. Our cooks provide a variety of hearty home cooked meals.

The area where we conduct our deer and elk hunting is designated by #18 on your Colorado Big Game Map. It is a road less part of the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest near Rocky Mountain National Park. Travel is on foot or horseback. The majority of our hunts are off of horses. There are no motorized vehicles allowed in the Troublesome Basin, a primitive area. Our camps are a wilderness experience. The Troublesome Basin consists of 80,000 acres, timbered land, open parks and meadows, river drainage and peaks above timberline. The elevation ranges from 7,500 to 12,300 feet.

Our main camp is located in the heart of the elk and deer hunting country, on the East Fork of the Troublesome Creek, It is a five to six mile horseback ride from the trailhead off route 125, and twenty-five miles north/north west of Granby, Colorado.

The main camp is nestled into the north side of a meadow, utilizing the southern sun with the trees protecting the cam from any northerly breezes. A stone's throw from the camp is the East Fork of the Troublesome Creek where one can fish for trout. There is a 20 x 24 cooking and socializing tent with its own cold running water and electricity. There are also several 16 X 20 sleeping tents with rugs, electricity and individual sleeping mattresses on cots and wood-burning stoves.
