Are you dreaming about your upcoming Colorado elk hunt with Samuelson Outfitters? Your trip will be an adventure, that’s for sure! It will be a chance to see a part of the world few others really experience. The wilderness of Colorado might seem like a different planet to you, and that’s one of the cool things about hunting elk “out there.” With that in mind, definitely bring a camera so you can take pictures of your hunt!

What to Pack

What are some items to bring for a Colorado hunt? Since the wilderness can get confusing, it’s a good idea to bring some sort of GPS or compass with you “just in case.” You might also want to pack binoculars, a rangefinder, a headlamp and a drybag. Would it hurt to carry a first aid kit? Nope. And sun protection matters, so protect your eyes and skin from the sun and wind– a good hat, some sunscreen and sunglasses are all good things to bring.

Do you have particular snacks you like? Bring ‘em, along with some water to stay hydrated. If you’re going to hike several miles, you’ll need to drink plenty of water, especially if it’s a hot day. For a long list of things Samuelson Outfitters recommends you bring for your Colorado hunt, check out our “gear list” page.

Before you attempt a guided elk hunt in Colorado, take some time to read about the area online. You’ll be in the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forests via Troublesome Basin, in the central Rocky Mountains. You can google this area and read various articles about it. Check to see the current temperature and weather conditions. Perhaps do a google search on “hunting elk in Colorado” too, in order to get some tips and read other people’s stories about their experiences.
